Overview

Calculate the AutoCAD SCALE factor between two drawing scales for the same real object.

Formula

Scale factor = Old denominator/New denominator

Example

Changing 1:100 to 1:50 requires 100/50 = 2. Changing 1:50 to 1:100 requires 0.5.

How to use

  1. Check the units, enter the required values and select the available calculation options.
  2. Results update immediately. Correct any highlighted input before using the result.
  3. Choose display precision, copy the result or share the current inputs. Reset restores the example values.

Engineering notes

  • The drawing unit and real object must be the same. Different unit systems need an additional unit conversion.
  • Changing a 1:1 model's output scale is usually a viewport or print setting, not a geometry SCALE operation.

Frequently asked questions FAQ

Why does a smaller denominator make the drawing larger?

Drawing length equals real length divided by the denominator. Halving the denominator doubles the drawing length.

Does display precision change the calculation?

No. Rounding is applied only to displayed results, not intermediate calculations. Small nonzero values use scientific notation. Consider the precision of the original measurements when interpreting results.
